Imagen 2

Imagen 2 was developed by Google DeepMind as the successor to the original Imagen model. It was officially released in late 2023 to compete with other major diffusion models in the AI space. The model was engineered specifically to deliver enhanced photorealism and better image-text alignment.

One of the major improvements of Imagen 2 over its predecessor is its significantly better ability to accurately render legible text within generated images. Older AI models famously struggled to spell words correctly on signs or posters. Imagen 2 utilized advanced language understanding to minimize these AI artifacts and produce coherent typography.

Imagen 2 was integrated into several Google products for consumer and developer access. It powered the image generation features within Google Bard (later renamed Gemini) and Google's Vertex AI platform. This allowed developers to build applications utilizing the model via Google Cloud's API.

The primary upgrades in Imagen 2 focus on high-fidelity photorealism, improved image-text alignment, and better rendering of human faces and hands. Google DeepMind trained the model on more advanced datasets to reduce the distorted limbs common in early AI generations. It also features better safety filters to prevent the generation of inappropriate content.
