description Ise Bay Overview

Ise Bay is a semi-enclosed inlet on the Pacific coast of central Honshu, Japan, bordering Mie and Aichi prefectures. It is closely associated with the nearby Ise Grand Shrine, the most sacred Shinto site in Japan. The bay contains Chubu Centrair International Airport, an artificial island airport serving the Nagoya metropolitan area. In September 1959, the bay region suffered catastrophic devastation from Typhoon Vera, which prompted significant advancements in Japanese seawall and flood defense engineering.
