Jane's Longbow Gold

Released in 1996, Jane's Longbow Gold is an enhanced compilation that bundles the original AH-64D Longbow flight simulator with the Flash Point Korea expansion pack. It also added native 3DFX Voodoo graphics support, significantly improving the visual fidelity over the base game. It remains one of the most highly regarded combat flight simulators of the DOS era.

Because it was developed for MS-DOS and early Windows 95, Jane's Longbow Gold will not run natively on modern operating systems. To play it today, flight sim enthusiasts typically use DOSBox or community-built wrappers and patches. The game requires significant tweaking to map its complex controls to modern USB joysticks.

The game was developed by Origin Systems, the legendary studio founded by Chris Roberts that was famous for the Wing Commander franchise. It was published by Electronic Arts under the highly respected Jane's Combat Simulations brand. This partnership ensured the game featured exceptionally realistic military data and weapon systems.

While the primary playable aircraft is the AH-64D Apache Longbow, the Gold edition does allow you to fly the older AH-64A Apache variant in specific missions. The campaign focuses heavily on the Longbow's advanced mast-mounted radar and fire-and-forget AGM-114D Hellfire missiles. Players cannot fly other helicopters, like the Comanche or Kiowa, in this specific title.
