Jon O. Newman

Jon O. Newman serves as a senior judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which hears federal appeals from New York, Connecticut, and Vermont. He was elevated to the Second Circuit in 1979 after serving as a district judge for the District of Connecticut.

Judge Newman is widely recognized for his influential opinions in federal criminal law, sentencing guidelines, and appellate procedure. His decisions have been frequently cited by other federal courts and the Supreme Court throughout his decades-long judicial career.
