description Kill la Kill Specials Overview

Peace has returned to Honnouji Academy at last, and now that it has served its original purpose, the unique high school is set to be shut down within a month. However, there is still one final event that must take place: the graduation ceremony. As each member of the student council prepares to leave their past selves behind to focus on what they would like to do in the future, Satsuki Kiryuuin struggles to find her own path, having lost her resolve after finally achieving victory. But just before she is to give her speech to the student body, the ceremony is disrupted by mysterious beings that are identical to the student council members.

help Kill la Kill Specials FAQ

Do I need to watch the Kill la Kill specials before the main anime?

No, the Kill la Kill specials—often referred to as the OVA or Episode 25—should only be watched after you finish all 24 episodes of the main series. The specials take place after the final battle, when Honnouji Academy is shutting down for good. It serves as an epilogue to Ryuko Matoi and Satsuki Kiryuin's story rather than an introduction.

What happens at the graduation ceremony in the Kill la Kill Specials?

During the final graduation ceremony, the student council prepares to disband as Honnouji Academy is scheduled to be demolished within a month. However, the event is interrupted when the vengeful Rei Hououmaru attempts one last sabotage using leftover Goku Uniforms. The main cast, including Ryuko and Satsuki, must team up one final time to deliver a massive, action-packed send-off to their high school.

Are the Kill la Kill specials animated by Studio Trigger?

Yes, the specials were animated by Studio Trigger, the same studio responsible for the main Kill la Kill series. Directors Hiroyuki Imaishi and Sushio returned to maintain the incredibly dynamic, high-energy animation style that the studio is famous for. The visual flair and exaggerated action sequences are perfectly consistent with the original run.

Does Ryoko still wear Senketsu in the Kill la Kill Specials?

No, Ryuko does not wear Senketsu because the living sailor uniform sacrificed his life during the climax of the main series to defeat Ragyo Kiryuin. The OVA explores how Ryuko copes with moving forward and living as a normal high schooler without relying on her Kamui. The story emphasizes her personal growth and independence following her massive losses.
