No, the original Kingdom Hearts coded was only released in Japan on mobile phones starting in 2007 as an episodic release. Western fans instead got the Nintendo DS remake Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, which launched in North America in January 2011.

The plot begins when Jiminy Cricket discovers a strange message inside his journal that he never wrote, so King Mickey digitizes the journal to investigate. A digital version of Sora then travels through data worlds to fix the corrupted bugs, which leads into the setup for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

In Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX on PlayStation 3, released in 2014, Re:coded is included only as over two hours of remastered cinematic cutscenes, not as a playable game. To actually play it you need the original Nintendo DS cartridge.

It helps but is not essential, since the ending of Re:coded sets up the Mark of Mastery exam that Sora and Riku take in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance on the Nintendo 3DS. Watching the HD 2.5 ReMIX cinematic version is the fastest way to catch up.

Re:coded was co-developed by Square Enix and h.a.n.d., the same studio that handled Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the DS. Disney Interactive Studios was involved as the partner publisher for the original mobile version.
