Krug Clos du Mesnil

Krug Clos du Mesnil is a single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs Champagne, meaning it is crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. It is sourced entirely from a small, historic walled vineyard in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. This area is famous for producing crisp, highly acidic, and mineral-driven Chardonnay.

The Clos du Mesnil is a 1.84-hectare vineyard that has been protected by stone walls since 1698. Krug purchased the vineyard in 1971 and produced their very first single-vineyard vintage in 1979. It was initially intended to highlight the unique micro-terroir of this specific plot, contrasting their multi-vintage Grande Cuvée.

While Krug Grande Cuvée is a multi-vintage blend of over 120 different wines from various plots, Clos du Mesnil is a strictly single-vintage wine from one specific walled vineyard. Furthermore, Grande Cuvée heavily features Pinot Noir and Meunier, whereas Clos du Mesnil is 100% Chardonnay. The Clos du Mesnil specifically showcases the delicate, citrus qualities of its specific terroir.

As one of the most exclusive Champagnes on the market, Krug Clos du Mesnil comes with a luxury price tag. A standard 750ml bottle typically retails between $800 and $1,200, depending on the vintage. It is highly prized by collectors and represents the pinnacle of Krug's white wine production.
