Kumamoto Plain

description Kumamoto Plain Overview

The Kumamoto Plain is an alluvial lowland surrounding Kumamoto city in central Kyushu, Japan. It was formed through sediment deposited by rivers including the Shirakawa and Midorikawa, which flow westward toward the Ariake Sea. Its flat terrain and water resources support intensive agriculture and urban settlement, while groundwater recharged in the surrounding volcanic and upland areas is an important part of the region's water system.
