Laccaria laccata

description Laccaria laccata Overview

Laccaria laccata, commonly called the deceiver, is a small mycorrhizal mushroom found in woodland and other habitats across much of the Northern Hemisphere. It forms associations with tree roots and has a thin, often reddish-brown or orange-brown cap whose shape and color can change substantially with age and moisture. That variation makes field identification difficult. It has been reported as edible, although it is not usually considered a choice food mushroom.
