Lambskin Leather

Lambskin is incredibly soft and lightweight, making it much less durable than thicker hides like cowhide. To prevent tearing, you should avoid wearing lambskin garments in rugged environments and never carry heavy items in the pockets. Storing them on padded hangers in a cool, dry place is also crucial to maintain their shape.

You should never machine wash or soak lambskin leather gloves, as water will ruin the natural oils and cause the skin to shrink. For minor stains, it is best to gently dab the area with a specialized leather cleaner using a soft cloth. For heavy soiling, taking them to a professional leather dry cleaner is highly recommended.

Lambskin is more expensive largely because it yields less usable material per animal and requires delicate handling during the tanning process. It is highly prized for its buttery texture and beautiful drape in luxury fashion garments. Cowhide, being thicker and more abundant from standard beef production, is generally easier to process in bulk.

Because it is a natural, unlined material in its purest form, lambskin does breathe relatively well compared to synthetic leathers like polyurethane. However, leather in general traps heat, making a heavy lambskin jacket uncomfortable for hot summer days. It is much better suited for spring, fall, or mild winter weather as a stylish layering piece.
