Lee Westwood never won a major championship, despite finishing as runner-up three times, including the 2010 Masters and the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews. He is widely considered one of the greatest golfers of his generation never to have won a major. He did, however, win over 40 professional titles worldwide.

Westwood joined LIV Golf in 2022 as one of the first European players to sign with the new league. He stated that the reduced schedule and different format appealed to him at this stage of his career, and he expressed frustration with the established tours.
