Léon Boëllmann was a French composer and organist of the late nineteenth century, educated at the École Niedermeyer in Paris. His approximately sixteen-year professional career produced music for organ, chamber ensembles, piano, and other forces, with an idiom influenced by César Franck and Camille Saint-Saëns. He is chiefly represented in the organ repertoire by Suite gothique, Op. 25, composed in 1895, whose concluding Toccata is frequently performed.
