description L'Œil crevé Overview
L'Œil crevé, also known at its first production as V'lan dans l'œil, is an opéra bouffe in three acts by Hervé, the stage name of Florimond Ronger. It was first performed in Paris at the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques on 12 October 1867. The work is built around deliberately nonsensical situations and language, placing it within the burlesque strand of nineteenth-century French operetta and making it relevant to study of Hervé's comic theatre.
