Lokbatan mud volcano

In 2001, the Lokbatan mud volcano produced a massive explosion that released huge volumes of flammable gas, igniting a large fire visible from miles away near Baku, Azerbaijan. The eruption was powerful enough to reshape the surrounding terrain and drew significant scientific and media attention to Azerbaijan's mud volcano phenomenon.

The Lokbatan mud volcano is one of the most active mud volcanoes in the world, with frequent eruptions documented over many decades. Its eruption pattern is irregular but notably frequent compared to other mud volcanoes, with significant events occurring at intervals of roughly every few years.
