Longan, scientifically named Dimocarpus longan, is a tropical evergreen tree in the soapberry family, Sapindaceae, and a close relative of lychee and rambutan. Its small round fruit has thin tan to brown skin, translucent edible flesh, and a single glossy dark seed. Cultivated in tropical and subtropical parts of Asia, longan is eaten fresh and is also sold dried, canned, or incorporated into drinks and desserts.
