LsL Instruments Saticoy

LsL Instruments was founded by luthier Lance Lerman in Southern California. Lerman started the company with a focus on creating hand-built instruments that replicate the feel and look of vintage 1950s guitars. The Saticoy is one of the company's flagship models, designed to evoke the spirit of a pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster.

The LsL Saticoy is meticulously crafted to replicate a specific 1954 Fender Stratocaster that Lerman had the opportunity to analyze. It features the distinctive S-style offset double-cutaway body shape and uses aged hardware and nitrocellulose lacquer to achieve an authentic "relic" aesthetic. The goal is to provide players with the tone and feel of a priceless vintage instrument.

LsL achieves the relic aesthetic through a painstaking process of applying thin nitrocellulose lacquer and then artificially aging the guitar. This involves techniques like creating "checking" lines in the finish, wearing away the paint on the neck and body edges, and artificially rusting the metal hardware. Each guitar is hand-aged, meaning no two Saticoy models look exactly the same.

The LsL Saticoy typically features a body made from lightweight swamp ash or alder, depending on the specific finish requested. The neck is usually constructed from maple, sometimes featuring a rosewood or maple fingerboard. It is equipped with custom-wound single-coil pickups designed to capture the bright, bell-like tone of a 1950s Stratocaster.
