M1-16

description M1-16 Overview

M 1-16, also written M1-16 or Minkowski 1-16, is a planetary nebula produced by the ionized material expelled by an evolved star. Astronomical studies describe it as a multipolar object with distinct lobes, knots, and more than one outflow, including fast bipolar motion in its molecular and optical gas. It is used in research on how collimated outflows and possible binary evolution shape planetary nebulae.
