Mackie MCU Pro

The Mackie MCU Pro is compatible with virtually all major digital audio workstations including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase, Digital Performer, and Studio One. It uses the widely adopted Mackie Control protocol, which most DAWs natively support for motorized fader and transport control. This universality has made it one of the most popular control surfaces in both home and professional studios.

The Mackie MCU Pro features eight motorized channel faders plus a dedicated master fader. It can be expanded by daisy-chaining up to three additional Mackie XT Pro extenders, each adding eight more fader/encoder channels for a total of 32 channels plus the master. This modular approach lets users scale their control surface to match larger mixing workflows.

The Mackie MCU Pro requires its own external power supply; it is not USB bus-powered. This is because it drives motorized faders, a large number of LED indicators, and a two-row display that collectively draw more current than USB can provide. The included power adapter connects via a standard barrel plug on the rear panel.

The Mackie MCU Pro has seen several firmware revisions since its original introduction, with v3 being a later version that includes updated firmware and minor hardware refinements for better compatibility with newer DAW versions. The core design—eight motorized faders, dedicated transport controls, and V-Pots—remained consistent across versions. Many users update older units to newer firmware to maintain DAW compatibility.
