Makran Coastal Plain

description Makran Coastal Plain Overview

The Makran Coastal Plain is an arid coastal lowland extending along the Arabian Sea in southern Pakistan and southeastern Iran. It lies between the sea and the rugged Makran ranges, with a landscape shaped by seasonal streams, marine terraces, mud formations, sparse vegetation, and limited rainfall. Settlements and ports, including Gwadar, give the coast strategic and economic importance, while the plain also forms part of an active tectonic margin affected by earthquakes and tsunamis.
