Sir Malcolm Sargent was a British conductor and organist who lived from 1895 to 1967. Closely associated with the BBC Proms, he served as chief conductor of the summer concert series from 1948 until his death and became widely recognized for conducting its Last Night celebrations. He worked extensively with British orchestras and choral societies, championed English music, and helped bring orchestral and choral repertoire to broad radio and concert audiences.
