Man on Horseback

description Man on Horseback Overview

The man on horseback (Tricholoma equestre), also known as the yellow knight, is a yellow to yellow-green mushroom with yellow gills that grows in mycorrhizal association with pines and other trees across Europe and North America. It was long considered a choice edible and was sold in French and Italian markets under names such as chevalier. However, after French reports in the early 2000s linked meals of the mushroom to cases of rhabdomyolysis, a severe breakdown of muscle tissue that proved fatal in some instances, food-safety authorities advised against eating it or removed it from lists of mushrooms authorized for sale.
