Manannán mac Lir

He is a prominent sea deity in Irish and Manx mythology, associated heavily with the ocean, weather, and the otherworld. He is known as a psychopomp and a guardian of the magical realm of Tír Tairngire. He uses his control over the weather and mists to protect the mystical islands.

He is deeply connected to the Isle of Man, which is believed to be named after him. In Manx mythology, he serves as the island's first ruler and its magical defender. He supposedly concealed the island from invaders using his cloak of mist.

He figures prominently in several medieval Irish texts, including the Lebor na hUidre and the Tales of the Elders of Ireland. These manuscripts record his interactions with mortals and his role guiding the Tuatha Dé Danann. These stories form the core of his mythological legacy.

While he interacts with the Tuatha Dé Danann, Manannán is often classified as a deity from an older or separate race of gods. He rules over the otherworld islands and provides the Tuatha Dé Danann with magical pigs and cows. He ultimately guides them to their hidden, eternal realm.
