description Marinid Dynasty Overview
The Marinid dynasty was a Zenata Berber Muslim dynasty that ruled Morocco and, at different times, parts of the wider Maghreb from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. The Marinids made Fez their principal capital after replacing the Almohads and supported Maliki Sunni institutions as part of their administration. Their architectural legacy includes madrasas such as Bou Inania, al-Attarine, and Sahrij, which served religious, educational, and residential functions. The dynasty lost power after internal conflict and was overthrown in Fez in 1465.
