Mary R. Dawson was an American vertebrate paleontologist who spent much of her career at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. She specialized in Cenozoic mammals of North America, producing important research on fossil rodents, rabbits, and other small mammals. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2014 and was active in the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology.
