Matthew J. Wedel is an American paleontologist who has published research on sauropod dinosaurs, with particular focus on vertebral pneumaticity and the evolution of the respiratory system. He earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley and has held academic positions teaching anatomy. Wedel has contributed to the description of several dinosaur taxa, including Sauroposeidon and Brontomerus.

He is also known for co-authoring the book "The Sauropod Dinosaurs" and for public science outreach through the blog SV-POW!
