Memento

Memento was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan. It was released in 2000 and served as his breakout feature film, establishing his reputation for complex, non-linear storytelling. The screenplay was written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan, based on a short story called "Memento Mori."

The film uses a complex dual-timeline structure to simulate the protagonist's anterograde amnesia. One timeline plays out chronologically in black and white, while the other plays out in reverse chronological order in color. The two timelines converge at the end of the film to reveal the shocking truth behind the mystery.

The protagonist, Leonard Shelby, suffers from a severe form of anterograde amnesia. This means he is completely unable to form new memories following a traumatic incident where his wife was attacked. To compensate, he relies on a system of polaroid photographs, handwritten notes, and intricate tattoos to track his investigation.

Guy Pearce stars as Leonard Shelby, a former insurance investigator turned avenger. The film also features Carrie-Anne Moss as Natalie and Joe Pantoliano as Teddy, two dubious characters whose true motives are obscured by Leonard's condition. Pearce's performance effectively conveys the constant confusion and paranoia of the character.
