Menaechmi

description Menaechmi Overview

Menaechmi, also known as The Two Menaechmuses, is a Roman comedy by Plautus built around identical twin brothers who were separated in childhood and unknowingly arrive in the same city. Mistaken identities involving a wife, a mistress, servants, and townspeople generate the play's escalating confusion before the brothers recognize one another. The comedy became an important model for later European drama and was a principal source for Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors.
