Merkava Mk.4 Barak

The Merkava Mk.4 'Barak' (Lightning) is the latest evolution of Israel's uniquely designed main battle tank, a platform conceived around the paramount principle of crew survivability above all else. Its most distinctive feature is the front-mounted engine, which acts as additional ballistic protection for the crew compartment. The Barak iteration introduces a generational leap in capability with the 'Iron Vision' helmet-mounted display system—a 360-degree, augmented reality view of the outside environment derived from exterior cameras, allowing the crew to 'see through' the armor. It is also the first tank to operationally integrate a hard-kill Active Protection System as standard, the Rafael Trophy, which has proven highly effective in intercepting anti-tank rockets and missiles in combat.

The Merkava is armed with a 120mm IMI smoothbore gun and carries a large ammunition load, with rear-access doors allowing for safe re-supply or emergency evacuation.
