Modern Idyll is a Russian satirical work by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, also known in English as Contemporary Idyll. It began as a series published in Otechestvennye Zapiski from 1877 and was issued as a separate book in 1883. The work is commonly classified as political satire and a picaresque novel, although some descriptions treat it as a linked collection of short stories.
