help Monster Hunter World FAQ

Can you play Monster Hunter World completely solo?

Yes, the entire base game and story can be played entirely solo offline. However, you cannot use the SOS Flare system to get help from other players during these solo hunts until you complete a specific assignment.

What is the difference between Monster Hunter World and Iceborne?

Iceborne is the massive expansion pack for the base game, which introduces the freezing Hoarfrost Reach map and new monsters. It essentially doubles the endgame content and increases the Hunter Rank cap, introducing the highly challenging Master Rank tier.

How do you mount monsters in Monster Hunter World?

To mount a massive creature, you must launch yourself into the air using a ledge or wedge beetle and repeatedly strike the monster from above. Once you land on the monster's back, you must use your weapon's light and heavy attacks to build up damage until it topples.

Does Monster Hunter World have a weapon durability system?

Weapons do not have permanent durability meters that break, but they do require periodic maintenance via an item called a Whetstone. Your weapon's sharpness degrades over time, lowering your damage and causing your strikes to bounce off hard monster armor until you sharpen it.
