description Moog Matriarch Overview

The Matriarch is the quintessential modern semi-modular synth, built around the legendary Moog ladder filter. It offers unparalleled sonic depth and immediate musicality, making it perfect for sound designers who need maximum control without diving into full modular patching. Its robust build quality and signature Moog sound make it a benchmark instrument for electronic music.

help Moog Matriarch FAQ

Is the Moog Matriarch polyphonic?

The Matriarch is four-note paraphonic, not fully polyphonic. It has four analog oscillators, but the voices share parts of the signal path in a way that feels different from a true polysynth like a Sequential Prophet.

Do I need Eurorack modules to use a Matriarch?

No, the Matriarch has a normalled semi-modular signal path, so it plays immediately without patch cables. The 90 patch points are there when you want to reroute modulation, audio, envelopes, filters, or external Eurorack gear.

What makes the Matriarch sound different from the Moog Grandmother?

The Grandmother is a smaller monophonic Moog with spring reverb, while the Matriarch expands the idea with 49 keys, four oscillators, stereo filters, and stereo analog delay. The Matriarch is better suited to wide drones, paraphonic chords, and complex patching.

Can the Matriarch save presets?

No, the Matriarch does not store presets like a digital workstation or modern poly synth. Moog expects users to work hands-on, using the front panel, patch cables, arpeggiator, and sequencer to build sounds in real time.
