Mulan (1998)

While Ming-Na Wen provided the speaking voice for the title character, Lea Salonga provided Mulan's singing voice. Donny Osmond famously provided the singing voice for Captain Li Shang. The film's acclaimed soundtrack was composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

The film is loosely based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, following a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her ailing father's place in the Imperial Army. She uses her intelligence and a little luck to help defeat the invading Hun army. Alongside her, she brings a small dragon named Mushu, voiced by Eddie Murphy, to guide her.

The comedic dragon Mushu was voiced by actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. Murphy's high-energy performance was a massive highlight of the 1998 animated film and helped define its comedic tone. Mushu is sent by Mulan's ancestors to protect her but mostly causes trouble as a sidekick.

The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, though it lost to "Shakespeare in Love." It did win several Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature. The movie was highly praised for its themes of female empowerment and its impressive animation style.
