Anthony Murray Gleeson is an Australian jurist who served as the 11th Chief Justice of Australia from 1998 to 2008. Prior to his appointment to the High Court of Australia by Prime Minister John Howard, he served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales from 1988 to 1998. Throughout his tenure on the bench, he was known for his conservative judicial philosophy and strict statutory interpretation.
