description N49 (LMC) Overview

N49 is a supernova remnant in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way located in the southern sky. Its expanding shock structure is asymmetric and filamentary, and the remnant is associated with the soft gamma repeater SGR 0526-66, a source of recurring high-energy gamma-ray activity. N49 is studied through observations at X-ray and other wavelengths.
