Naka-Yatagarasu Guyot

It is a flat-topped underwater seamount, or guyot, located on the Pacific Ocean floor. It is noted for its ancient volcanic origins and, like other guyots, has a distinctive table-like summit.

It is named after Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow of Japanese mythology, which is famously said to have guided the legendary Emperor Jimmu. "Naka" is a Japanese word meaning middle or central.

A guyot begins as a volcanic island whose summit is eroded flat by waves at sea level, then subsides into the deep ocean as the seafloor cools and sinks. The term "guyot" was coined by geologist Harry Hess and honors the Swiss-American geographer Arnold Henry Guyot.

No, it lies far too deep on the Pacific floor for scuba diving, as seamounts of this type sit hundreds to thousands of meters below the surface. It is instead studied through oceanographic survey methods such as sonar mapping and dredging.
