description Necessidades Palace Overview
Necessidades Palace, or Palácio das Necessidades, is an eighteenth-century palace and former convent complex in Lisbon, Portugal. It later served as a royal residence and a venue for official receptions. After the Portuguese Republic was established in 1910, the building was adapted for government use and became the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It therefore combines the history of a royal residence with the present-day role of Portugal's foreign-ministry premises.
