Nelson's Column is a granite monument in Trafalgar Square, central London, completed in 1843 to honor Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The column was designed by architect William Railton and stands approximately 169 feet tall, topped by a sandstone statue of Nelson. Four bronze relief panels at the base depict scenes from Nelson's major battles, cast from captured French cannons. Four bronze lion sculptures, designed by Edwin Landseer, were added at the base in 1867.
