Océanopolis

Océanopolis is organized around marine environments, with long-running temperate/Brittany, polar, and tropical visitor areas. The Brest center opened in 1990 near the Moulin Blanc marina.

It is both: Océanopolis is an ocean discovery center with living aquariums and science interpretation. Its Brest location reflects the city's strong marine research identity, including links to institutions such as Ifremer.

Visitors commonly look for penguins, seals, sharks, tropical reef fish, and local Brittany marine species. The site has millions of liters of seawater across its aquarium systems, including a large shark tank.

The first pavilion was designed by French architect Jacques Rougerie, with a shape often compared to a crab shell. That original temperate pavilion opened to the public in June 1990.
