Off the Wall - Michael Jackson

Quincy Jones produced Off the Wall after meeting Michael Jackson on the set of The Wiz. The album was released on Epic Records in 1979 and marked Jackson's first collaboration with Jones, who would go on to also produce Thriller.

The album spawned four top-ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' and 'Rock with You,' both of which reached number one. 'Off the Wall' and 'She's Out of My Life' also charted strongly, making it the first album by a solo artist to place four singles in the top ten.

Off the Wall sold roughly 20 million copies worldwide, which was extraordinary but would be dwarfed by Thriller's estimated 70-plus million. However, many critics consider Off the Wall the stronger pure R&B and disco record, and it established the creative partnership with Quincy Jones that made Thriller possible.

Off the Wall blends disco, funk, pop, and soft rock, reflecting the late-1970s musical landscape. Tracks like 'Workin' Day and Night' lean into funk while the title track is quintessential disco-pop, showing the range that would later define Jackson's career.
