Ogunquit Beach

Ogunquit Beach is a stunning barrier beach that stretches for three miles along the southern coast of Maine. Yes, the Ogunquit River side of the beach is highly popular for swimming, especially for families with small children. Because the river is sheltered from the open ocean, the water is significantly warmer and the current is much gentler. Many visitors rent inner tubes or kayaks to float down the river as the tide comes in.

Ogunquit Beach is entirely open to the public, though parking requires a fee or a town resident permit during the busy summer months. Dogs are allowed on Ogunquit Beach, but there are strict seasonal restrictions to protect the piping plover birds and ensure public safety. From April 1st to September 15th, dogs are completely prohibited on the beach at any time. During the off-season, they are allowed but must remain leashed.
