Olive-spotted Hummingbird

description Olive-spotted Hummingbird Overview

The olive-spotted hummingbird, Leucippus chlorocercus, is a hummingbird in the family Trochilidae from the western Amazon basin. Its range includes Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and adjacent Brazil, particularly along the Amazon and its tributaries, where it uses river islands and early-successional or open shrub vegetation. A white mark behind the eye and olive-green spotting on the throat help explain its common name, and the species is also treated as Talaphorus chlorocercus in some taxonomic systems.
