Oral Fixation, Vol. 2

Shakira released her seventh studio album, "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2," in late November 2005. It was the English-language counterpart to her earlier Spanish-language album "Fijación Oral, Vol. 1." The album was highly anticipated and followed her massively successful crossover album "Laundry Service."

The biggest hit from "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2" is undoubtedly the smash single "Hips Don't Lie," featuring Wyclef Jean. Although originally not on the standard tracklist, it was added to a subsequent reissue and became a global phenomenon, topping charts in over 50 countries. Its infectious trumpet beat and belly-dancing rhythm made it an iconic song of the 2000s.

While "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2" was nominated for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, it did not take home the trophy. However, Shakira won the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album Grammy the year prior for "Fijación Oral, Vol. 1." "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2" still achieved massive commercial success, selling millions of copies worldwide.

"Fijación Oral, Vol. 1" is a Spanish-language album, whereas "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2" is predominantly an English-language album. Shakira intended for the two albums to represent the dualities of her musical style, with Vol. 1 being more melodic and personal, and Vol. 2 leaning into rock-oriented themes. They were released roughly six months apart in 2005.
