description Orphulella speciosa Overview
Orphulella speciosa, commonly called the slant-faced pasture grasshopper, is a short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae and subfamily Gomphocerinae. Samuel Hubbard Scudder described the species in 1862. Its range extends across North American grasslands from east of the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Coast and from southern Canada to northern Mexico, where it favors upland short-grass, tallgrass, and mixedgrass habitats and shows variable green, brown, and tan coloration.
