The Reference 96 is arguably the most historically significant Calatrava, introduced in 1932 as the very first Patek Philippe watch to bear the name. It defined the minimalist, Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic, featuring a simple dial with small seconds, that the Calatrava line is still famous for today.

While it is considered the quintessential dress watch, its classic proportions, usually around 37mm to 39mm, and relatively thin profile make it highly versatile. However, most vintage and highly decorated Calatravas lack modern water resistance and sports durability, making them better suited for office and formal wear.
