Paul Hobbs Winery

The winery was founded in 1991 by Paul Hobbs, an enologist who first gained fame working at Robert Mondavi Winery. He is widely credited with helping to pioneer the premium wine movement in Argentina.

Paul Hobbs co-founded Viña Cobos in Argentina in the late 1990s, which became famous for producing high-altitude, highly rated Malbecs. His consulting work helped introduce modern oak aging and vineyard management techniques to South American wineries.

In his Sebastopol-based winery, Hobbs focuses on small-lot, vineyard-designate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. He also produces powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from premier sites in Sonoma County.

Hobbs is known for a very meticulous, high-intervention approach in the vineyard, heavily sorting grapes to ensure perfect ripeness. His wines typically showcase bold, concentrated fruit flavors and heavy use of French oak.
