Paul Sereno

Paul Sereno's expeditions have uncovered numerous significant fossils, including the early dinosaurs Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus in Argentina's Ischigualasto Formation, and the fish-eating dinosaur Suchomimus and the sauropod Nigersaurus in Niger's Sahara Desert. These discoveries have been critical to understanding early dinosaur evolution and Cretaceous African ecosystems.

Sarcosuchus, popularly called 'SuperCroc,' is an extinct giant crocodyliform that lived during the Cretaceous period and grew to an estimated 30 to 40 feet in length. Sereno's team discovered remarkably complete Sarcosuchus remains during expeditions to the Sahara Desert in Niger in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Sereno is a professor of paleontology at the University of Chicago, where he conducts research and teaches in the Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy. He leads field expeditions primarily to the Sahara Desert in Niger and other parts of Africa, as well as to South America.

Project Exploration is a science education nonprofit co-founded by Paul Sereno and Gabrielle Lyon aimed at making science, particularly paleontology, accessible to underserved youth in Chicago. The organization provides hands-on programs that connect students with real scientific research and fieldwork.
