description Pavo Overview

Pavo is a constellation in the southern sky whose name is Latin for peacock. It was introduced to European star charts by Petrus Plancius and is one of the southern constellations associated with early modern celestial mapping. Its brightest star is Alpha Pavonis, commonly called Peacock, a blue-white multiple-star system that gives the constellation its principal named stellar landmark.
