Pelham Puppets Type SL Cook

The Type SL Cook marionette is based directly on the notoriously peppery Cook character from Lewis Carroll's classic novel, *Alice in Wonderland*. It depicts the angry kitchen worker who throws plates and utensils during the chaotic scene inside the Duchess's house. This specific puppet was part of a rare Pelham Puppets collection based on Carroll's famous characters.

The Type SL Cook was only produced for a very short window in the 1950s as part of Pelham's SL line of storybook characters. Because it was a niche character compared to standard clowns or animals, far fewer were manufactured and sold. Today, finding one with its original strings and intact paint from the 1950s is highly prized by vintage toy collectors.

Authentic 1950s models will feature a specific stamp or tag reading Pelham Puppets along with the Made in England markings on the wooden control bar. The head and hands are carved from wood, and the clothing is hand-stitched fabric unique to the Cook design. The facial features are hand-painted with the distinct, angry expression characteristic of the Alice in Wonderland scene.

The Type SL Cook marionette stands approximately 8 to 10 inches tall, which was the standard size for Pelham's storybook SL line.
