description People's Daily Overview
People's Daily is a Chinese-language daily newspaper and the official organ of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. The modern paper was launched on 15 June 1948 in Pingshan County, Hebei, moved to Beijing in 1949, and became the Central Committee's official newspaper on 1 August of that year. Its reporting, editorials, and policy commentary communicate the party leadership's positions to readers in China and through overseas and online editions.
