Philip Dunne was an American screenwriter, film director, and producer whose Hollywood career extended from the 1930s into the 1960s. He wrote the screenplay for John Ford’s How Green Was My Valley (1941) and later worked on films including The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, David and Bathsheba, and The Agony and the Ecstasy. Dunne was active in writers’ labor organizations and helped establish the Screen Writers Guild, a predecessor of the Writers Guild of America.
